Banbridge High School opened its doors for the first time on September 1st 1957 with 420 pupils on the register.
In September 2008 our enrolment is 675 pupils with 50 teaching staff.
In March 1997 our new school building was officially opened by the Duchess of Kent. The school has a commanding view overlooking the town and surrounding countryside.
In 1999 we successfully introduced sixth form courses to allow pupils to continue their studies before heading directly to university, other higher education courses or the world of work.
Last academic year we marked and celebrated 50 years of learning and achievement, reflecting our school motto 'leading to success.'
In 2002 we gained a Schools Curriculum Award. This year we are participating in a an exciting curriculum initiative with other local schools for Key Stage 4 pupils. The Banbridge Area Learning Community involves Banbridge Academy, Dromore High School, St Patrick’s College, Rathfriland High School, New-Bridge Integrated College and Banbridge High School.
We are proactive in the area of personal health and well-being, and have been a Health Promoting School for five years. Sport and extra-curricular activities are an important aspect of life in our school. We also promote concern for the environment both locally and globally. The work of pupils has been recognised locally and internationally with various awards including the Eco-Schools Award.
The school plays a major part in the life and community of Banbridge and district. We encourage pupils to participate fully in the life of our community. We also welcome the involvement of many community organisations in the daily life of our school.
