Music is taught to all pupils in the junior school and may be chosen as a GCSE subject in Year 11 & 12.
The aim of the department is to stimulate and develop an appreciation of music through involvement in the areas of Listening, Composing and Performing.
Varying degrees of progression are built in to the content and delivery of the revised curriculum in order to engage and motivate pupils at all levels.
Students are offered a wide variety of musical experiences in both the classroom and in extra-curricular activities including:

  1. orchestra
  2. choir
  3. keyboard groups
  4. instrumental groups

Through these activities we perform concerts regularly in the local community, often performing at local senior citizens’ homes.
The choir and orchestra have also raised money for many different charities through performances in local venues.
Pupils have won various competitions for composition and performance.  A group of pupils took part in the BBC
Voices of Promise competition, in which their composition was broadcast nationally on the radio.
In 2007 two of our pupils reached the final eight in the BBC BLAST programme: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blast/music
