Mathematics embraces a wide range of inter-related activities.  It is concerned with the organisation, manipulation and communication of information according to well defined rules and processes.  It is a stimulating, challenging and hopefully enjoyable experience.  It makes a major contribution to other subjects and is used regularly in everyday life.
All pupils in Years 8 and 9 are following the Revised Curriculum in Mathematics and Financial Capability.  Pupils in Year 10 are following the Programmes of Study of the NI Curriculum and are entered for external examination at the end of Year 10.

Year  11 and 12 pupils study GCSE Mathematics and are currently entered for OCR 2 Tier Graduated Assessment Exam.  Pupils sit External Modular exams in January and June of Year 11 and March in Year 12.  Pupils may also take Additional Mathematics.  The material in this course is of a more complex nature and pupils chosing it may do so on the basis of proven mathematical ability at Key Stage 3.

Some pupils in Year 9 are entered for the Junior Maths Challenge organised by the University of Leeds.  Pupils in Year 12 and 13 are also entered for Mathématiques Sans Frontières Competition which encourages problem-solving in groups and in a foreign language!  We have a thriving Fantasy Football League open to all pupils and staff, which challenges many numeracy skills.

All pupils in Year 9 take part in our Crystal Maze Day in June.  Each student has to complete a logic, number or shape challenge in one of our 5 zones.  If the challenge is completed successfully in the allocated time the team is given a Crystal.  Each Crystal gives them time in the Crystal Maze trying to find even numbered dominoes.  Great fun is had by all!
