Information Communication Technology
Key Stage 3
All pupils in years 8 & 10 receive one hour of dedicated ICT per week. The work aims to develop the following skills:
Explore – a range of digital sources such as the WWW and other online databases such as encyclopaedia.
Express – using a range of application software in the development of ICT solutions such as the creation of a multimedia presentation.
Exchange – collaboration in the electronic exchanging of ideas with people inside and outside of the tradition classroom.
Evaluate – the ICT resources used and sources available in the completion of a given task.
Exhibit – the final solution in both electronic and paper-based form with the target audience in mind.
Work covered includes the following:
- Advanced word processing skills
- Multimedia design using presentation software such as PowerPoint & Movie Maker
- Use of databases & spreadsheets
- Podcasting
- Yacapaca
- Web Design and publishing
- Using Wikis & Blogs
Key Stage 4
Pupils in years 11 & 12 have the option of studying ICT at Entry Level & GCSE. Both courses are accredited by CCEA and emphasise the development of computer-based skills.
Entry Level – 80% Coursework & 20% Written Examination.
GCSE – 60% Coursework & 40% Written Examination.
GCE Applied ICT
The Single Award ICT is accredited by OCR and studies the following units:
AS unit 1: Using ICT to communicate
AS unit 2: How Organisations use ICT
AS unit 3: ICT solutions for individuals and society
A2 Unit 9: Working to a Brief
A2 Unit 12: Publishing
A2 Unit 14: Developing & Creating Websites
