We aim to encourage pupils to connect with their past constructing a narrative of their own lives.
To raise pupil awareness of where they came from and how they got there.
Pupils are encouraged to question and contest information past and present, developing critical thinking skills to study important events and issues in the world.
History is compulsory in Junior School and can be studied at GCSE or Entry Level
We believe in the importance of bringing History alive and so each year group in junior school includes at least one educational visit.
Visits include Carrickfergus Castle, Dromore Motte and Bailey, the Ulster American Folk Park, N. Ireland Assembly and the Somme Centre.
We also take advantage of any opportunities provided within the local community and further a field to enhance the learning experience;
Cinema visits, lectures, plays and exhibitions to name but a few. Involvement in the Junior European Studies Project allows pupils to make friendships cross community and cross border through the medium of historical study and which will include, for some, an Educational Visit to the Battle Fields of World War 1 in Belgium and France.
