‘Geography is the window on the world’
‘Imagine a world without geography-Without Geography- you’re lost’.

The Geography Department seeks to engage pupils in a way that challenges them to think about the world in which they live, learn effectively, enjoy their time in the classroom and experience firsthand the world outside.

Aims of the Department

  • To maintain and stimulate interest and enjoyment in the subject.
  • To encourage students to have open and enquiring minds.
  • To employ teaching and learning strategies that allows pupils to experience success and enjoyment in their work.

All pupils in Years 8,9and 10 follow the Programmes of Study for Key Stage 3 and have four periods of geography per week. Pupils are given the opportunity develop communication, intellectual and practical skills.

Geography is an optional subject at Key Stage 4 and the people choosing it follow the AQA course with 5 teaching periods per week.
The GCSE course is built around the framework of lessons covered in Junior school. While it is necessary to know factual information the subject also stimulates investigative thinking enabling pupils to deal with decision making and problem solving exercises.

It is hoped that through a study of Geography at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, pupils will develop knowledge and understanding, skills and values which will equip them better for everyday life in the adult world around them.

Fieldwork

Fieldwork plays a vital role both at Key Stage 3 and 4, consisting of a variety of local studies throughout the Junior and Senior school.

Educational Visits

Pupils also participate in a variety of Educational Visits all designed to support the teaching and delivery of selected topics throughout the year.
